How Sane Are We? Four Levels
Four levels of the story How Sane Are We are as follows:
Literal Comprehension
“How Sane Are We” is an essay written by Anuradha Chaudhary. This essay is related to the environment, chlorofluorocarbons, chlorine, fluorine, the ozone layer, depletion, greenhouse effects, and the future life of animals and human beings.
Also about political leaders. In terms of political leaders, they are only thinking about their next election and do not care about the environment and they do whatever to win in the election.
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) invented in 1930, come from refrigerators and air conditioners which affect the ozone layer, greenhouse, and bring climate disasters, and to the lives of human beings. Which causes many people to die from various diseases, skin cancer, etc.
It also decreases the fertility of the land. In 1974 scientists warned about the effects of CFCs on the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Norway are mostly producing CFCs.
In 1995 there was an agreement to stop producing CFCs but European countries did not agree. In 2000 European nations also agreed.
In terms of living creatures maintaining the environment they kill other creatures to live, also it is a continuous process of maintaining the environment.
E.g. human kills other small animals to eat, shark fish kill other small fishes to eat, etc. In this way, the writer presents those types of things.
Interpretation
Maybe this essay trying to tell us the importance of a clean environment that is free of pollution. This essay tries to aware of the effects of natural disasters, that could be happened because of human beings.
It also interprets that we should elect a good leader who can create a natural environment in the nation and stop pollution.
Critical Thinking
In this essay the writer only blames the political leaders, she does not blame the scientists, where she seems one-sided.
Assimilation
After reading this text “How Sane Are We?” I knew that for a healthy environment in the country as well as the world we have to consider the ozone layer, CFCs, greenhouse, political leaders, environmental challenges, conditions of our countries, etc.
