This free Australia student visa checklist is for Nepali students applying for the Student visa (subclass 500) in 2026. Print it, tick items off, and keep it with your file. It is a planning aid, not immigration advice: always generate your own list with the Home Affairs Document Checklist Tool, because requirements depend on your passport and your education provider.

1. Before you apply
- ☐ Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from your Australian provider
- ☐ Offer letter showing tuition, deposit paid and any scholarship
- ☐ Passport valid for your whole planned stay
- ☐ English test result that meets your course and visa requirement
- ☐ Answers for the Genuine Student (GS) questions in your own words: your study plan, your ties to Nepal, and how the course fits your career
- ☐ Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) arranged for the full visa period
- ☐ ImmiAccount created with your own email address
2. Money and source of funds
Australia asks for evidence that you can pay for travel, tuition and at least A$29,710 a year of living costs for yourself (more for a partner or children). Work out your number with our student visa money calculator.
- ☐ Bank statements or education loan sanction letter in the name of you or your sponsor
- ☐ Evidence of where the money came from: salary slips, business registration and tax records, rental agreements, or loan documents
- ☐ Relationship proof for each sponsor (for example a relationship certificate)
- ☐ Tax clearance or income documents for sponsors, translated into English
- ☐ A short, honest note explaining any large recent deposits
- ☐ No Objection Letter (NOC) from the Ministry of Education if you need to transfer fees from Nepal (see our NOC guide)
3. Lodging the application
- ☐ Visa application charge ready: A$2,500 for most main applicants from 1 July 2026, not refunded if refused
- ☐ Every document scanned clearly, in colour, and named so an officer can find it
- ☐ Biometrics booked if you are asked for them
- ☐ Health examination done if you are asked
- ☐ Police certificate provided if you are asked
- ☐ Copies of everything saved in one folder, online and offline
4. After you get the visa
- ☐ Read your visa grant letter and conditions, and check them in VEVO
- ☐ Note the work limit: 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session
- ☐ Keep OSHC active for the whole visa
- ☐ Tell your provider about any address change within 7 days
- ☐ Book flights so you arrive before your course start date
5. First two weeks in Australia
- ☐ Get a Tax File Number (TFN) before you start work
- ☐ Open an Australian bank account
- ☐ Save your provider’s international student support contacts

Common mistakes Nepali applicants make
- Showing a large deposit with no explanation of where it came from
- Copying GS answers from an agent template instead of writing your own
- Buying OSHC that ends before the visa does
- Assuming the minimum balance is enough to live on in Sydney or Melbourne
