Applying on or after 30 November 2026? Living costs go up

For applications made on or after 30 November 2026, the monthly living-cost amounts rise to £1,570 in London and £1,203 outside London. For 9 months that is £14,130 (about Rs 28.72 lakh) or £10,827 (about Rs 22.00 lakh). If you are applying for a January intake, check which side of 30 November your application falls.

How the health surcharge works

The surcharge gives you access to the NHS during your stay. You pay it as part of your online application, before your biometrics appointment. GOV.UK says the amount depends on how long your visa lasts, not just how long your course is. Visas usually run a little longer than the course, so a one-year master’s often means paying for more than one year. Use the official calculator on GOV.UK to get your exact figure before you finalise your budget.

Other costs to plan for

  • TB test. Nepal is on the UK’s list of countries where you need a tuberculosis test if you are coming for 6 months or more. The test must be done at a Home Office approved clinic, and the certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of your x-ray.
  • English test fees, if your university asks for one.
  • University deposit, which many universities ask for before issuing a CAS. Check the university is a licensed sponsor before you pay. See our sponsor licence check guide.
  • Flights and first-month costs such as a rent deposit.
