USA vs Canada vs UK vs Australia: Where Should Nepali Students Study?
Choosing where to study abroad is one of the biggest decisions for Nepali students. This page compares the USA, Canada, the UK and Australia side by side: the student visa, work rights while studying, and options to work after graduation.

How to choose
- Total cost, not just tuition: add living costs, health cover, visa fees and flights. Our budget guide shows how to plan monthly spending.
- Work after graduation: compare the length and conditions of OPT, the PGWP, the UK Graduate visa and the 485 visa for your exact course.
- Family: if you plan to bring a spouse, the UK now limits this to research postgraduates.
- Stability: all four countries changed student rules in 2024–2026. Choose a course you would be happy with even if the rules change again.

Which study abroad destination fits you?
- The USA, if you want the widest range of universities and scholarships and are comfortable with strict work rules while studying.
- Canada, if off-campus work during study and a post-graduation work permit matter to you, and you choose a PGWP-eligible program.
- The UK, if you want shorter degrees (often a one-year master’s) and do not need to bring family on a taught course.
- Australia, if you want generous term-time work hours and can meet the Genuine Student requirement with strong evidence.
Study abroad cost checklist
- Tuition for the full course, not only year one
- Living costs at the level the visa rules require
- Visa fees and health cover
- Flights and setup costs
- Money you can earn legally, counted conservatively
Write these down for two or three countries side by side. The cheapest study abroad option on paper is not always the cheapest once health cover, course length and work rights are included.

Talk to students already there, read the official pages linked above, and check the latest rules again before you pay a deposit. Study abroad rules in all four countries have changed several times since 2024, and they may change again.
