Canada Raises Study Permit Proof of Funds to CAD 23,448 from 1 September 2026

1 September 2026. Canada. The proof of funds amount for living costs that study permit applicants must show has gone up.

New amount

• Single student, applications on or after 1 September 2026: CAD 23,448
• Previous amount (1 January 2025 to 31 August 2026): CAD 22,895
• This is on top of first-year tuition and travel costs, and it rises for each accompanying family member.
• Quebec sets its own requirement.

Recalculate your funds if you are applying now. Keep 6 months of statements, loan letters or a GIC ready. See bank balance by country.

Proof of funds by family size

The CAD 23,448 figure is for a single student. The amount rises for each family member who comes with you. Check the table on the IRCC proof of financial support page for your family size, and remember that tuition and travel are added on top.

Accepted proof of funds

• A Canadian guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) from a participating institution
• Bank statements for the past 6 months
• Proof of an education loan
• Proof that you have paid tuition and housing fees
• Scholarship or funding letters
• A letter from a person or school giving you money

Proof of funds checklist

• Recalculate if you planned around the old CAD 22,895 figure.
• Add first-year tuition and travel to the living-cost amount.
• Make sure the source of any large deposit is documented.
• Get your NOC before moving money from Nepal.
