USA: refusal under section 214(b)

• 214(b) means the officer was not satisfied you qualify, often on study intent, funding or ties.
• There is no appeal. You can reapply with a new DS-160, a new fee and a new interview.
• Reapply only if something meaningful has changed or you can present information you did not show before.

Canada: study permit refusal

• The refusal letter lists the reasons, such as funds, purpose of study or ties to home.
• You can apply again with a stronger application that addresses each reason.
• Many applicants request their officer’s notes (GCMS notes) through an access-to-information request to see the full reasoning.
• Judicial review in the Federal Court is possible within strict deadlines. Talk to a licensed Canadian lawyer or regulated consultant quickly if you are considering it.

UK: administrative review

• If you applied from outside the UK and were refused, you may be able to ask for an administrative review. Your decision letter will say if you can.
