UK Raises Student Visa Maintenance Funds from 30 November 2026
3 September 2026. United Kingdom. The UK government’s latest statement of changes to the Immigration Rules (HC 584) raises the maintenance funds Student visa applicants must show for living costs.

The new amounts
- London: £1,570 per month (up from £1,529)
- Outside London: £1,203 per month (up from £1,171)
- Up to 9 months, as before
- Applies to applications made on or after 30 November 2026

UK maintenance funds: worked examples
- Outside London, course of 9 months or longer, applying on or after 30 November 2026: 9 × £1,203 = £10,827.
- London, same dates: 9 × £1,570 = £14,130.
- Applying before 30 November 2026: 9 × £1,171 = £10,539 outside London, or 9 × £1,529 = £13,761 in London.
- Add any first-year course fees you still owe, minus the deposit already paid.
If your course is shorter than 9 months, maintenance funds are calculated for the length of the course. Check the exact rules on GOV.UK.
Maintenance funds checklist
- Hold the full amount for at least 28 consecutive days.
- Make sure the 28-day period ends within 31 days of your application date.
- Use statements that clearly show the account holder, the balance and the dates.
- If your funds are in Nepali rupees, check the converted amount on the date you apply.
